Stuart Chanen

I have practiced law in Chicago for 41 years, the past six at Chanen & Olstein LLP, with my partner Ariel Olstein. Chanen & Olstein represents both plaintiffs and defendants, in trial and appellate work, in business litigation, and also criminal, exoneration, and civil rights litigation. Our national practice is in both state & federal courts, mediations and arbitrations, and before the ARDC. I am fortunate to have been trained as a lawyer in the Chicago legal community, first at Northwestern Law School, and then at Sachnoff & Weaver, Katten Muchin, the United States Attorney Office, and Valorem Law Group. Each was an invaluable experience in my development as a lawyer. Other experiences, such as teaching at several area law schools, serving as an ARDC Hearing Officer, and serving as a Trustee to a charitable foundation have also fueled my constant learning as a lawyer. Ariel and I have also been fortunate to be deeply involved with Northwestern's Center on Wrongful Convictions ("CWC") and pleased to have played a part in the exoneration of 17 individuals who were wrongfully convicted and who collectively spent more than 270 years in prison for crimes they did not commit and are now all free men. We have also had success representing five of these clients in civil rights litigation, with jury verdicts of $25M and $13.4M, and pretrial settlements of $16M, $15.4M and 10M.
