Steven Runyan

I’ve been managing partner since 2017. When not herding legal cats, I concentrate my practice in the area of business litigation, and thanks to the diverse practice of KGR, I am able to advise a wide spectrum of clients before federal and state courts throughout Indiana, administrative agencies, and in arbitration proceedings. Due to my unique background, I have learned the importance of understanding the client’s issue, from both a practical and legal perspective, before setting a path to resolve the issue. I understand the importance of keeping a client informed of the latest developments in a matter and responding promptly to client questions. I assist clients in a wide range of matters: Employment issues involving non-compete agreements, discrimination, investigations and litigation of employee theft or embezzlement; financial institutions in work-out and foreclosure matters; fiduciary matters including D&O liability; assisting municipal clients in federal and state litigation; surety and fidelity bond matters, and representing candidates in elections contests and recounts. In addition to litigation matters, I represent small and mid-sized businesses and their owners regarding internal disputes such as minority freeze-outs and claims of breaches of fiduciary duties, as well as external contractual disputes. I previously served on the executive committee of the IndyBar Litigation Section, concluding as Chair for the Section. I have served on the Board of the USO of Indiana since 2017, including as Chair for three years through Covid and the many post-Covid changes. I am so thankful for the sacrifice of Hoosier service members and families and the incredibly dedicated volunteers who serve those service members through the USO. Prior to earning my J.D., I earned an accounting degree from the University of Northern Iowa and completed the CPA Examination, served as an officer in the United States Air Force (primarily as a criminal investigator), and was a Buyer for Honda of America.
