Steve Burton

Steve is a criminal defense attorney who specializes in defending accusations of violent crimes. He is a former domestic violence prosecutor for several cities in Salt Lake County including Taylorsville, Holladay, and Cottonwood Heights and has served as a part-time judge in the North Salt Lake Justice Court and as the President of the Utah Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Steve also founded Defense Attorneys for Balanced Criminal Justice (“DABCJ”) which actively represents defense attorneys across the State in the lawmaking process on Capitol Hill. In addition to criminal prosecution and defense, Steve has worked in the State Attorney General's Office, the Utah Governor's Office under Governor Huntsman, and in the Office of Congressman Chris Cannon in Washington D.C. He also traveled to Rome, Italy to work for the world's largest law firm Baker & McKenzie. Currently, he practices in Utah and focus exclusively on criminal defense and criminal legislative issues. Steve received his Juris Doctorate Degree from Brigham Young University's J. Reuben Clark School of Law. While attending law school, he was chosen to participate on BYU's National Trial Advocacy Team, Moot Court Team, and Law Review. He also received top honors in multiple trial, appellate, and negotiation competitions.
