About Sean Walton

Sean Walton, Jr. has built his career making the systems meant to deliver justice actually deliver it. As Founding Partner of Walton + Brown LLP in Columbus, Ohio, alongside partner Chanda Brown, he has won landmark results across civil rights, wrongful death, catastrophic injury, and employment law, delivering transformative outcomes for individuals and families while resetting the standards those cases are measured by.Within that practice, Walton occupies a lane no other attorney in the country is known to hold. He has litigated police misconduct on behalf of the families it devastates. He has represented police officers themselves, winning the highest and second-highest racial discrimination settlements for Ohio police officers at the time. And he advises the world's largest manufacturer of law enforcement technology on the ethics of what it builds. Those three vantage points on American policing, the people it harms, the officers who serve within it, and the technology that shapes it, almost never appear in a single career. It was in this work that he helped secure the nation's first murder indictment of a law enforcement officer in a case with no video and no eyewitness evidence. As a member of Axon's Ethics and Equity Advisory Council, Walton helps shape how those tools are designed and governed, advising on racial equity and community trust at the source. His aim is to make police misconduct litigation unnecessary, even as he remains uniquely equipped to win the hardest of those cases when they come.Walton builds with the same intent he litigates. He is President of the NAACP Columbus Branch, the driving force behind the Civil Rights Section of the Ohio Association for Justice, and an adjunct professor at Capital University Law School. Alongside his wife Jennifer, he co-founded Ground x Grind, a social and cultural hub building Black creativity, community, and economic power into the fabric of Columbus.A Coca-Cola Darwin T. Turner Scholar at the University of Cincinnati, he earned his law degree from Capital University Law School. In the tradition of Charles Hamilton Houston, who defined the lawyer as a social engineer rather than a bystander to injustice, Walton uses the law as an instrument to remake the systems that fail the people they are meant to serve. In the end, the work is personal. He carries the memory of those who came before him and the futures of his daughters into every case, driven by a belief that he was put here to do exactly this.
