Sean Hogle

Sean's law practice is focused primarily on technology, internet, entertainment and media ventures, including software, telecommunications, hardware/semiconductors, clean tech, visual effects, and technical services companies. Sean's more than 25+ years of diverse legal experience make him well-suited to act as virtual general counsel to his venture clients, specializing in startup legal imperatives, employment law, technology transactions and licensing, technical and professional services engagements, online terms of use, data security & privacy issues (including HIPAA, CCPA and GDPR counseling), cross-border mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, and general intellectual property matters. Sean's clients span the globe, from San Francisco to London to Tokyo. Since 2000, Sean has been retained as fractional remote general counsel to six ventures, in the US, Europe and Asia, that have IPO'd or been acquired by the likes of Facebook, Samsung, Citrix, RIM and Nokia. Sean began his legal career with a large law firm in Denver, Colorado, where he represented numerous high technology enterprises. Eventually, Sean moved in-house with Sun Microsystems, where he became Assistant General Counsel. In this role, Sean was responsible for technology licensing and alliances for Japan and the Asia Pacific region, as an expatriate in Tokyo. In 2001, Sean joined the embedded and consumer software venture Aplix Corporation, also based in Tokyo, as General Counsel. Sean facilitated the company's international growth and eventual IPO on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2003. In addition to his General Counsel role, Sean managed, as President and Chief Operating Officer, the company's United States and European subsidiaries in San Francisco and Munich, from 2004 to 2006. From 2006 to the present, Sean has operated his own law practice. In 2016, Sean became partner with the global commercial boutique firm of Rooney PC, based in NYC/London, heading up the firm's San Francisco office (in addition to maintaining his existing practice).
