Sean Gibbons

Sean B. Gibbons is a partner in Freeman Mathis & Gary’s El Segundo office. Mr. Gibbons specializes in labor, employment, and wage/hour law, advising employers throughout California on labor and employment policies and practices. He represents employers in litigation, arbitration, administrative hearings, and collective bargaining negotiations. Mr. Gibbons’s attention to detail and granular understanding of the facts at issue in his cases has earned him the admiration of his clients and has allowed him to anticipate and eliminate issues before they can threaten his clients’ interests and operations. Mr. Gibbons represents private, municipal, and quasi-municipal entities in State and Federal courts in all phases of litigation, from pleadings, discovery and depositions to motion practice and trial. He also represents his clients in arbitration and mediation proceedings, and has successfully negotiated favorable results directly with opposing counsel when necessary. Mr. Gibbons also represents his clients before Federal and State administrative bodies including the EEOC, the NLRB, and the California State PERB and EDD. Mr. Gibbons’s practice also involves advising clients on oversight and risk-management functions for Human Resources and employee relations issues, including but not limited to employee recruitment and retention, evaluation, discipline, compensation, and separation. He provides comprehensive employment counseling in public- and private-sector contexts with regard to represented and unrepresented employees, including drafting, presenting, and implementing comprehensive personnel policies and training clients’ management teams in the administration of those policies. He closely monitors legal trends and significant high-court decisions to ensure that his clients comply with all appropriate laws and regulations. Mr. Gibbons has served as lead negotiator for public and private entities in collective bargaining. Upon ratification of labor agreements, he provides advice and counseling on their administration and enforcement. He also engages with collective bargaining agents and employee representatives in order to successfully resolve grievance issues. Mr. Gibbons graduated from the National Labor College in Silver Spring, Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts in Labor Studies. He received his law degree from Boston College (J.D.) and has since been repeatedly honored as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star.” An avid triathlete and ten-time Ironman, Mr. Gibbons enjoys spending time with his family, supporting the L.A. Galaxy, and cooking.
