Sandra Myers

I received my Juris Doctor degree, concentrating in criminal justice, from McGeorge School of Law in May 2015. My long-term goal of attaining a career in public service was solidified by my exposure to criminal law, in theory and in practice, throughout my law school education. I took on every possible opportunity to further my advocacy skills, including the attainment of a certificate in advocacy. As interpersonal skills are essential to effective advocacy, I also obtained a mediation 40-hour basic training certificate, and was a member of McGeorge School of Law’s Prisoner Civil Rights Mediation Clinic, for which I co-mediated section 1983 prisoner civil rights cases in Federal Court for the Eastern District of California. During my last year of law school I participated in the field placement program, working as a certified law clerk at Yolo County District Attorney’s Office, and received honors due to my exemplary work. My job duties included drafting motions and memoranda on felony and misdemeanor cases, as well as representing the People of the State of California in court. My time spent as a certified law clerk at Yolo County District Attorney’s Office allowed me the opportunity to put the skills I acquired while working as a television anchor, host, and reporter to excellent use. I realized how interrelated the essential attributes of a successful broadcast reporter and an attorney are, as both require the ability to communicate to others with ease, while simultaneously delivering a clear, succinct, and persuasive message. The aforementioned skills and attributes were engrained into my persona during my time spent in broadcast journalism, shaping me into an excellent communicator, public speaker, and writer. Furthermore, it allowed me to cultivate a passion for public speaking, which transferred with ease into my legal career.
