About Roy Dripps
Roy handles maritime personal injury, defective product, trucking, and other serious personal injury cases, as well as attorney discipline defense and legal malpractice cases. He has tried cases in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. He has argued in the United States Courts of Appeals for the Sixth, Seventh, Eighth and Tenth Circuits and in Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, and West Virginia state courts of review. He has successfully tried disputed Jones Act seaman status and Limitation of Liability Act cases. He wrote the petition for certiorari, the merits briefs and argued the petitioner’s case to obtain a unanimous decision from the United States Supreme Court in the milestone maritime case Lewis v. Lewis and Clark Marine, 531 U.S. 438 (2001), preserving the right of state courts to hear maritime injury claims. He served the maximum three terms on the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Character and Fitness. He authored a successful proposal to amend Illinois Supreme Court Rules 212(d) and (e). Roy has written professional articles published by The University of San Francisco Maritime Law Journal, The Scholar: St. Mary's Law Review on Race and Social Justice, The Missouri Bar Journal, the Illinois Bar Journal and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Journal. He is a frequent CLE speaker. He is a former judicial law clerk to the late Justice Moses W. Harrison II and the late Justice James Mejda.
