In employment law, an ounce of prevention is often worth a pound of the cure. I enjoy counseling clients, ranging from small start-ups to large international companies, on potential risks and exposure and best practices to mitigate those risks while staying true to the client's company culture and business needs. However, if litigation (and its accompanying stress and challenges) cannot be avoided, I like to work as a counselor to clients to help them reach their goals and objectives in that case and in the bigger picture. I have over a decade of experience in employment advising, drafting and review of employment documents, and employment and general litigation. I represent employers in all areas of employment law, helping companies prevent litigation through counseling on issues such as wage and hour compliance, employment policies and procedures, employee disciplinary matters, hiring and firing, disability accommodation, leaves of absence, employment discrimination, wrongful termination, unfair competition, and harassment issues. In addition, I consult on and prepare handbooks, policies, and a broad range of essential agreements. I have first chaired and won trials and arbitrations where employees have claimed millions of dollars in damages. I have represented clients in California state and federal courts on matters including sexual harassment, retaliation, whistle-blowing, wage and hour class actions, wrongful termination, discrimination, disability issues, breach of contract, unfair competition, breach of fiduciary duty, trade secrets, defamation, fraud, and trademark and trade dress infringement. I have vast experience before the National Labor Relations Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board, the Department of Labor, the California Labor Commissioner, and state and federal courts in California.
