I lead Arnold & Porter's fiduciary litigation and tax controversy practice. In that role, I represent clients in estates and trusts disputes throughout the country. My work includes challenges to wills and trust agreements on the basis of undue influence, incapacity, or fraud; defending parties against allegations of fraudulent transfer; handling conflicts between co-trustees or co-beneficiaries, as well as disputes over trust management or the disposition of trust property; and representing clients in guardianship and intervention proceedings. I routinely represent estates under IRS audit and in all types of litigation. I regularly assist in both internal and government-related investigations of public charities and private foundations regarding, among other matters, fiduciary duties and governance. Regarding tax controversy matters, I represent corporations, partnerships, and individuals in Internal Revenue Service (IRS) audits and proceedings before the IRS Independent Office of Appeals and various state taxing authorities, as well as various state and federal trial and appellate courts. I also advise clients on all types of tax-related matters, including foreign asset reporting and penalty assessments.
