About Rebeca Ontiveros-Chavez

I am a Supervising Attorney at Ayuda. Ayuda provides legal, social, and language services to immigrants throughout Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. I focus primarily on humanitarian relief for victims of domestic violence/crime as well as representation for children detained and released from government custody. Before joining Ayuda, I was a Managing Attorney at the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center serving immigrant children. I also provided direct representation to immigrants on a variety of immigration matters. I am co-founder and currently a national board member of the Immigrant Justice Lab (IJL). The IJL is a collaborative community-academic partnership project to advance client needs and improve client services. The academic partnership is currently shared between the University of Michigan and Harvard. As a law student at the University of Michigan Law School, I was the Executive Articles Editor of the Michigan Journal of Race & Law, Co-President of the Latino Law Students Association, and a Student-Attorney for the Child Welfare Appellate Clinic and the Civil-Criminal Litigation Clinic. Before becoming an attorney, I worked for United States Senator Michael Bennet and was the Communications Director for the Congressional Hispanic Staff Association in Washington, D.C.
