At Walraven & Westerfeld LLP, our firm represents employers of all sizes—from small businesses to large institutions—in employment law counseling and defense litigation. I serve as outside employment counsel advising nonprofit and corporate clients on the full range of workplace and organizational issues – from day-to-day counseling to complex litigation, as well as providing support and guidance in traditional labor matters for clients with established unionized workforces, as well as those navigating union organizing campaigns, union recognition, and developing an inaugural collective bargaining agreement. I provide guidance to clients on all aspects of employment law, including medical and disability leave requests, accommodation and interactive process compliance, wage-and-hour audits, PAGA compliance and safe-harbor strategies, performance management, and discipline and termination decisions. I also handle litigation, defending employers in civil actions brought by employees and prosecuting claims against employees for violations of contractual obligations, including misuse of trade secrets. I am available to provide in-person, state-compliant harassment prevention training and can work with you to develop tailored management and employee training programs that fit your business needs. I have extensive experience serving as an outside neutral workplace investigator, including investigation of allegations of sexual harassment, workplace violence, fraud, and misconduct, as well as providing broader organizational assessments to evaluate team dynamics and resolve conflict when employees are struggling to work together. In addition to my firm practice, I serve as Assistant General Counsel to two nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations—Scripps College and the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County. In these roles, I partner closely with institutional leadership on a wide spectrum of issues, including governance, contracts, compliance, intellectual property, employee relations, litigation strategy, regulatory investigations, and policy development. My work supports these organizations’ missions while safeguarding their legal and reputational interests.
