Neil Selman

Neil is a nationally recognized leader in the areas of insurance coverage and related matters. He has been involved in some of the largest and most important insurance cases and has helped to shape the law in this important area. Neil is retained by industry leading insurers on matters involving all areas of coverage, including property-casualty, personal and advertising injury, environmental, entertainment, professional liability, as well as extra-contractual issues. He is considered an expert in the excess/surplus lines area and advises his clients on business practices, underwriting and claims handling. Neil is often requested to draft policy language and endorsements. He is also involved in the defense of complex civil litigation, and has nationally coordinated cases involving toxic substances. Neil also advises carriers on policy limit and time sensitive demands and how to best protect the insurer in these circumstances. Neil has litigated matters in all areas relating to insurance coverage and extra-contractual matters. He has tried coverage and bad faith cases in California and other States and has appeared in the appellate courts of the State of California and other States as well, including the Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal. He has also been responsible for arguing cases before the California Supreme Court which have had significant impact on California insurance coverage law. Neil has also been involved in the litigation of complex civil claims including the national coordination of mass toxic tort claims, contract matters and business disputes. He therefore has the benefit of being able to bring this experience of defending a broad array of litigation to the insurance area, and also is able to provide insightful insurance information to the defense or prosecution of civil lawsuits.
