In 2016, a survivor of Larry Nassar's abuse told me her story. The statute of limitations had expired. Michigan State University had governmental immunity. Every legal expert said the case was unwinnable. We won $500 million. Most attorneys won't touch cases with expired statutes of limitations or governmental immunity. In the Nassar case, we convinced Michigan's legislature to create a new legal window, turning 333 supposedly time-barred cases into the largest personal injury settlement against a university in history.
