About Michelle Knight
I am an intellectual property attorney with a degree in electrical engineering and several years of experience in the power industry. I spent ten years as a power engineer. I was involved in implementing the FERC Open-Access Tariff for my employer and the power pool with a number of attorneys starting in 2005. I enjoyed that exposure to the law and was motivated to apply to law school as a result. Experienced in litigation, I now focus mainly on client counseling and procurement of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks and copyrights. I also prepare clearance and infringement/non-infringement opinions. Much of my work falls into the following industries: power, automotive, discrete component test equipment, laser processing and computer software. In patents, I have experience with various power-related technologies, such as wind turbine design and control, power system analysis software, power supply design, etc. I also work with patents involving semiconductor design, sensors, motors, electronics, software, such as video coding, and control systems, such as hybrid control systems. I have extensive experience with International applications and am considered a “go to” person for patent prosecution in several countries, including Japan, China and South Korea.
