Michael Hanan

As a partner in the Employment practice group of Gordon & Rees, I focus on the representation of management in all areas of employment law. I regularly defend employers against a broad range of employment claims from the inception of a lawsuit through trial, including wrongful discharge, discrimination, whistleblower and retaliation claims, disability accommodation, family leave and unlawful harassment. I have extensive litigation experience representing clients — which include Fortune 500 companies, privately owned companies, insurance companies and public employers — in federal and state courts, as well as arbitral and administrative tribunals. I have successfully defended cases on behalf of my clients through trial in each of these tribunals. I also litigate and provide advice and counsel related to, post-employment restrictive covenant issues involving confidentiality of trade secrets, non-competition and non-solicitation clauses, and defend companies against public access disability cases related both to physical premises and websites. Additionally, I regularly provide advice and preventive counseling on all aspects of the employment relationship, including the creation, implementation and enforcement of workplace policies and the investigation of harassment/discrimination claims. It is most rewarding to help clients navigate through the complexities of employment-related federal, state and local laws, and implement prudent, cost-effective strategies that address employment issues as they arise.
