Melissa Harms serves as a Business Development Principal at BAL, where she concentrates on cultivating and maintaining client relationships within the Northern California region. Her work involves strategically expanding BAL’s client portfolio, target market, and overall business growth. Before joining BAL, Melissa dedicated over two decades to practicing immigration law. Her legal career began in employment law, subsequently transitioning to an immigration firm to align her interest in legal advocacy with a desire for social change. Throughout her career, she has acted as a strategic legal partner for a diverse range of clients, from small startups to multinational corporations, large public universities, and private research entities, offering counsel on all aspects of immigration law.

Melissa has shared her knowledge by teaching immigration law courses for human resources professionals at California State University and the University of California. She has held numerous leadership positions within the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) during her 20-year membership, most recently serving on the AILA national Technology and Innovation committee as chair of government collaboration. Currently, she is the philanthropy chair on the board of Bay Area Mobility Management (BAMM).
