Martin Spellman

Martin Spellman started practicing law with his father and founder of the Spellman Law Firm, Edward M. Spellman, in 1967. Since then, he has litigated some of the largest personal injury and medical malpractice cases in the states of Iowa and Nebraska. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (membership by invitation and limited to 1% of lawyers), a member of the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers (membership by invitation), has served as President and Vice-President of Iowa Association for Justice, rated by Martindale-Hubbell AV as a Preeminent Lawyer, rated as Great Plains and Iowa Super Lawyers in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, named National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Trial Lawyers 2011, 2012 (membership by invitation) and is a Life Member of Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum and Million Dollar Advocates Forum. He was also a founder of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association (now the Iowa Association of Justice) in 1973. Martin Spellman is a highly respected trial attorney who has obtained successful verdicts and settlements for his clients over his 48 year career. Mr. Spellman received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Creighton University School of Law in 1967. He is admitted to practice and handles cases in Iowa and Nebraska, all U.S. District Courts in Iowa, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Martin Spellman has been married to his wife Patricia for 50 years. They have 7 children, 5 of whom are partners at the firm. They are proud grandparents of 17 grandchildren. In his free time, Martin Spellman enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren, reading, walking and traveling.
