Kate McDonough

I have spent most of my professional legal career practicing in the area of litigation with emphasis on family law. I have extensive experience throughout the State of Maryland, at all court levels, covering the full range from divorce and child support matters to litigating complex trials and appeals to serving as a Best Interest Attorney. In 2011, I was selected as one of The Daily Record's "Leading Women" (an award given to Maryland's Top 40 women under the age of 40). I was named a Rising Star Attorney by Super Lawyers for 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. I am admitted to practice law in all Maryland state courts and Federal courts, including the Federal District Court and United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. I am a court-certified Best Interest Attorney and have been appointed by the court to serve as a Personal Representative in estate matters. I am also trained in Collaborative Law and am a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP). I am an active member of the Bar Association of Montgomery County, Maryland State Bar Association, Women’s Bar Association (Montgomery County Chapter), and Family Law Section of the Montgomery County Bar Association. I served as co-chair of the BAMC Family Law Section for two terms from 2012-2014. I am presently the President of the Montgomery Chapter of the WBA. I am a Montgomery County, Maryland native and a graduate of Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in Washington, DC. In 2003, I received my Bachelor of Science and Arts with a double-major in International Affairs and Spanish and a minor in Latin American Studies from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. I received my J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 2006. I am fluent in both English in Spanish. I reside in Montgomery County with my husband and our two beagles. In my free time, I enjoy using my passport, watching college basketball, skiing, pilates, and doing jigsaw puzzles.
