Kate McDonald

Roy McDonald is the head of litigation, regulatory, and employment at Chime Financial and formerly was a partner at two AmLaw-25 law firms. He leads a team at Chime that guides the business through a broad array of legal issues. Roy provides seasoned counsel on the most significant legal risks facing the fintech company, and advises on cutting-edge regulatory concerns. He manages a diverse portfolio of litigation, regulatory, employment, compliance, and investigation matters. Roy develops and executes the relevant corporate legal strategy, and he scales operations and implements efficient systems for Chime’s rapidly growing business. Previously, Roy was a partner at McDermott Will & Emery and chair of McDermott’s group focused on significant regulatory, compliance, and corporate investigation matters. Prior to that, Roy was a partner at DLA Piper, advising prominent businesses and executives in technology, financial services, life sciences, energy, and consumer products. He has extensive experience as lead counsel to companies and boards of directors regarding their most important and sensitive matters. In his nearly 25 years of law firm practice, Roy represented clients ranging from Fortune 500 publicly-traded corporations to early-stage enterprises concerning their business operations around the world. Roy was named and profiled by the Silicon Valley Business Journal as one of Silicon Valley's "40 under 40" rising stars from across industries. He is a frequent speaker on government regulations and enforcement, litigation, risk management, and corporate compliance.
