Since 2012 I have been practicing immigration law almost exclusively. My practice is primarily focused on helping immigrants obtain legal status in the United States and defending those who face removal (deportation). Most of my caseload involves the representation of individuals in removal/deportation proceedings. I represent many clients that had been living in the United States for the majority of their life but had been convicted of or are currently facing criminal charges. My clients find themselves in immigration court for criminal charges ranging from minor traffic infractions to serious federal felonies involving drug trafficking, money laundering, and even attempted murder. However, many of my clients have no criminal records and are facing immigration issues based solely on the location of their birth. I also represent many refugees fleeing violence, persecution, and human rights violations in their home countries and seeking asylum in the US. I represent immigrants before USCIS who are seeking to obtain visas, legal permanent resident status (a Green Card), or US citizenship through naturalization. Many of these cases involve visa waivers. I am extremely passionate about the immigration work I did because I believe our Government should treat all people equally regardless of where they were born and that our laws should not be construed or enforced to result in the senseless separation or destruction of immigrant families. I was born and raised in New York City, a city built by immigrants, and one that proudly displays the 305-foot-tall Statue of Liberty welcoming immigrants in our harbor. I fought hard for my clients in the hope that they may have an opportunity to pursue the same American dream through which so many earlier immigrants have prospered.
