About Jordan Thomas

A principal architect of the SEC Whistleblower Program, Jordan established the nation's first whistleblower practice exclusively focused on federal securities violations. Both pioneer and recognized leader in the field, Jordan has been profiled in the New York Times and on NPR. The Wall Street Journal has described him as "[o]ne of the most prominent attorneys representing whistleblowers before the government." And the New York Times described the practice he leads as "[o]ne of the top legal practices in the country representing corporate whistle-blowers." Jordan's clients have consistently secured precedent-setting whistleblower awards and have launched many of the SEC's most high-profile cases. To date, his clients won the largest single-case whistleblower award in history, more than $83 million for reporting misconduct at Merrill Lynch, which led to its $415 million settlement with the Commission. In addition to significant monetary recoveries, among his landmark cases, he successfully represented the first officer of a public company to win an SEC whistleblower award, the first SEC whistleblower to receive criminal immunity, and the first SEC whistleblower to receive a whistleblower award because his company retaliated against him. A longtime public servant and seasoned trial attorney, Jordan entered private practice after serving as an Assistant Director in the SEC's Enforcement Division and as a Trial Attorney in the DOJ's Commercial Litigation Branch. He began his career as a Navy Judge Advocate on active duty and recently retired as a Captain from its Reserve Law Program. In recognition of his government work, he received four Chairman’s Awards, four Division Director’s Awards and a Letter of Commendation from the US Attorney for the District of Columbia. He also was twice awarded the Rear Admiral Hugh H. Howell Award of Excellence--the highest honor available for a Navy reserve judge advocate. Jordan is a frequent writer, speaker and media commentator on securities enforcement, corporate ethics and whistleblower issues. Follow him on Twitter @secreporter.
