John Lawhorn

I have been engaged in private legal practice since 1987. I have been associated with Frantz, McConnell & Seymour, LLP in Knoxville, Tennessee since 1990. I am also licensed to practice law in Alabama and Florida. I practice primarily in the area of labor and employment law, which includes workplace discrimination, harassment, retaliation, labor/management relations, employment contracts and advising employers on statutory and regulatory compliance issues under both federal and state law, including OSHA, FMLA, ADA and wage and hour laws. My clients include large and small employers, as well as employees who have disputes and claims against their employers. In addition, I regularly represent clients in other areas such as personal injury, products liability, consumer protection, business litigation and general civil litigation. I am listed as a Rule 31 general civil mediator by the Tennessee Supreme Court. I am also listed as a court certified mediator by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. I have an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest rating that can be achieved through its rating system. I was also recently named as one of Knoxville, Tennessee's preeminent employment law practitioners. Outside of work, I enjoy spending as much time as possible with my family. An avid outdoorsman, I relish every opportunity I get to backpack in the Appalachian Mountains while also enjoying wilderness travel. I am involved with several charitable organizations. I currently sit on the Board of Directors for Susannah’s House. I am a former Board President for Big Brothers-Big Sisters of East Tennessee and currently serve as its General Counsel .
