Jeremy Widder

I’m a criminal defense attorney and founding partner of SoMD Criminal Defense, based in White Plains, Maryland. Over the past 17 years, I’ve tried more than 70 jury trials and hundreds of bench trials — handling charges ranging from DUI and drug distribution to murder, attempted murder, and arson across Charles, Calvert, St. Mary’s, and Prince George’s Counties. Before opening my own practice, I spent nine years as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Charles County, Maryland, where I was named the inaugural Assistant State’s Attorney of the Year in 2014. That prosecution background gives me a distinctive edge in criminal defense — I know how the other side builds their case, and I use that insight to protect my clients. In 2024, I was named to The Daily Record’s Criminal Law Power List, recognizing Maryland’s top criminal law practitioners. Beyond my criminal defense practice, I've coached trial advocacy at three nationally recognized law schools: Georgetown University Law Center, American University Washington College of Law, and Temple University Beasley School of Law. Temple’s program was recently ranked #2 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. I serve as President of the Board of Directors for The Jude House, a recovery center in Bel Alton, Maryland. I also serve on the Executive Board of the Charles County Bar Association and on the Peer Review Committee of the Attorney Grievance Commission. I’m a member of the Board of Directors of the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys’ Association. I volunteer as a Mock Trial coach at La Plata High School, where I’ve coached students since 2020.
