Getting the right jury will greatly increase your client’s chance of success. In fact, I believe jury selection is the keystone to winning. At the outset you will need jurors who will listen, understand and accept your version of the case. First, people are visual they instinctively size up you and your client by appearance. Yes, millions of dollars are spent on dressing up book covers before the reader ever turns the first page. You and your client's dress and appearance are the cover of your case. Next, the manner and tone with which you conduct voir dire are equally important We've all painfully endured lectures in which the speaker talks in a boring monitone putting us to say to ourselves please be over. On the other hand some lectures kept us engaged with the speaker like a good movie intently following as if we ourselves were witnessing the events. Almost everyone loves a good storyteller right. The use of certain power words coupled with the proper tone can make or break your case. Equally important is getting prospective jurors backgrounds, education, and relationships as they relate to your clients. Think as much time as we spend on the web it's important to ask jurors about their social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. Explore if prospective jurors follow certain people, groups and if they like reading and or commenting on any relevant news articles. Depending on the subject matter this may reveal bias towards one side or the other. I have so much more I would like to share. For now suffice it to say please stay positive and enjoy each day.
