James Casey

I am a Martindale Hubbell A/V Preeminent rated attorney and Partner in the firm of Ziemer Stayman Weitzel & Shoulders, LLP. I concentrate my practice in Labor & Employment Law, Litigation, and Mediation. I advise clients on employment law and personnel related matters and defend employers in employment discrimination and other employment related litigation in state and federal courts including non-compete agreements, trade secret issues, wage claims, wrongful discharge, ERISA/employee benefits and civil rights actions. I also regularly defend employers before a variety of administrative agencies including EEOC, NLRB, IOSHA, DOL and the ICRC. I also represent management in collective bargaining negotiations and arbitrations with Unions. In addition to the above my practice includes serving as a civil Mediator as well as occasionally as an Arbitrator in ADR proceedings. I was certified as a Mediator in Indiana beginning in 1992 and have served as a court appointed Mediator in over 750 cases in Circuit and Superior Courts located throughout southwestern Indiana and western Kentucky. I also served as a Referee in approximately 50 cases for the Duke University Private Adjudication Center in the resolution of class action litigation claims. I have served as a Contributing Author for the “Employment and Labor Law Handbook for Indiana Lawyers” published by the Indiana State Bar Association in 2005 and 2014. I am a former President of the Evansville Bar Association. I was appointed to serve on the U.S. Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel in 2006. I was also recently appointed by the Indiana Supreme Court to serve as a member of its Working Group to establish specialized Commercial Courts in Indiana.
