James Banks brings a wealth of experience to his practice in Tallahassee, Florida. He was honored to serve as the Administrative Magistrate for the Second Judicial Circuit for the State of Florida after a period of retirement. His distinguished background includes teaching courses in criminology and psychology at Florida State University and delivering numerous lectures at law enforcement training academies. Mr. Banks served on the Florida Sentencing Commission for six years following appointments by Governor Martinez and Governor Chiles, and he also contributed his expertise to the Grievance Committee for the Florida Bar. He is the author of the ELCA Death Penalty Social Statement and has contributed chapters to the Florida Prosecution Manual (1982) and the Florida Dissolution of Marriage Manual (1980s). Over the past four decades, he has handled in excess of 20,000 cases, written 1,100 Wills, participated in over 550 appeals, and handled more than 30 first-degree murder cases. James Banks is a member of the Florida Bar, Georgia Bar, Tallahassee Bar Association (where he previously served as president), Jefferson County Bar Association, and the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
