When I was growing up, my parents told me that I loved arguing so much, I should become an attorney. Naturally, I argued right back. My first career aspiration was to become an environmental lawyer, helping to clean up the community. But my first job as an attorney was a public-sector employment defense attorney. I loved the cases, the stories, and the chance to fight for my clients. Before long, I was giving advice to my clients to avoid being on the wrong end of lawsuits, claims and investigations. The modern workplace can be messy, too. For the past decade plus, I've been representing private clients, helping them navigate the increasingly challenging world of labor & employment law compliance. I still love the thrill of arguing cases, but I'm also passionate about educating and informing my clients about the dos and don'ts of human resources and compliance. I'm not just an advocate - I'm a problem solver and a partner to my clients in finding creative solutions. I strive to understand my clients' businesses and help them become better corporate citizens. My ideal client is someone who wants their company's work environment to be as positive and productive as it can be. I began my career defending mostly discrimination, harassment and retaliation claims in state and federal court and before administrative agencies like the EEOC. I also have extensive experience with disability accommodations, family and medical leave, wage and hour compliance, and non-competition and other contractual claims. I draft and revise employee handbooks, policies, and agreements, and provide training and give presentations on the full gamut of employment law issues, from ADA to WARN.
