Harmeet Dhillon

Harmeet is the Assistant Attorney General, Civil Rights Division, US DOJ, responsible for enforcing the nation’s federal civil rights and employment laws. Before joining the DOJ, Harmeet was a trial lawyer focusing on civil rights, complex commercial, intellectual property, internet, privacy, campaign, First Amendment, and employment litigation at Dhillon Law Group Inc., a boutique business law firm headquartered in San Francisco with a national practice. She has been honored for several years with the distinction "Northern California Super Lawyer" by American Lawyer magazine. She was named one of the Recorder's 40 "Women Leaders in the Law" for 2012, and the SABA-NA Cornerstone Award recipient for 2012 as well. She is ranked "AV" on Martindale Hubbell by her peers for being a preeminent lawyer in her practice areas. A graduate of the University of Virginia Law School and Dartmouth College, Harmeet was an editor of the Virginia Law Review and Editor-in-Chief of The Dartmouth Review. Harmeet clerked for federal appeals court Judge Paul V. Niemeyer in Baltimore, Maryland prior to embarking upon an international corporate litigation practice in New York, London, Silicon Valley and San Francisco. Harmeet is active in legal issues pertaining to civil rights, domestic violence, religious liberties and the First Amendment. She was named by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association as one of the nation's "Best Lawyers Under 40" for 2007, and won the South Asian Bar Association of Northern California's "Outstanding Attorney Award" for 2010. In 2012, Harmeet won the SABANA Cornerstone Award for her career's work in civil rights and pathbreaking role in politics, and in 2013 was awarded SALDEF's Public Service award for her work on behalf of Sikh civil rights.
