in 1989, i was recruited to work for the u.s. postal service law department in washington dc where i handled freedom of information act and privacy act appeals, offered ethics guidance, and drafted private express statutes opinion letters. in 1991, i transferred to the usps atlanta field office where i handled ftca claims, postal service board of contract appeals (psbca) litigation over purchasing, leasing, transportation and construction matters, employment law litigation, environmental and false claims act matters in 2002, i left the usps to join wheeler upham, p.c. in grand rapids, michigan. i practice in the areas of labor and employment law, civil litigation, business law, real estate, construction law and postal law. in 2009, i became a shareholder of wheeler upham. i represent and counsel businesses on a variety of employment and business matters. i also represent postal and federal employees with discrimination claims against the government and who are facing adverse employment actions. i assist individuals and businesses with their disputes with the federal government and the u.s. postal service. i am a member of the labor and employment law sections of the michigan state bar and a past- chairman of the grand rapids bar associations labor and employment law section. specialties: labor and employment law, representing postal and federal employees in eeo litigation, merit system protection board (mspb) appeals, owcp claims, and disability retirement applications, and false claims act defense.
