Felton Newell

Felton Newell is an experienced trial attorney who provides sophisticated legal counsel to corporate and individual clients. In his 25+ years of practice, Mr. Newell has successfully represented clients in complex business litigation, entertainment litigation and employment matters. Mr. Newell has represented Fortune 100 companies, entrepreneurs and high net worth individuals in every phase of litigation including trial. Mr. Newell has practiced law at several national law firms including Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy and Morrison& Foerster. Mr. Newell began his professional career as a legislative staff assistant in President Bill Clinton’s White House. Mr. Newell then attended the University of Chicago Law School, where he had President Barack Obama as a law professor. In law school, Mr. Newell won the Thomas R. Mulroy Prize for excellence in appellate advocacy. Trial Experience For six years, Mr. Newell honed his trial skills in the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office, where he first-chaired more than 30 criminal trials to a jury verdict. In private practice, Mr. Newell has first or second-chaired more than 15 bench and jury trials in state and federal court. Employment Disputes Mr. Newell has represented employers in every aspect of litigation in numerous employment matters involving race, gender, age, and disability discrimination claims as well as claims related to the classification of individuals as independent contractors. Entertainment Disputes Mr. Newell has represented entities and individuals, including production companies and streaming services in various entertainment disputes involving contract disputes, trademark disputes and licensing agreements. He also conducted employee investigations. Honors Mr. Newell was selected for inclusion by his peers in Super Lawyers in the area of Business Litigation in 2022 and 2023. No more than 5% of Southern California attorneys earn a spot on the Super Lawyers list each year. In 2024, Mr. Newell was recognized as a "Legal Visionary" in the LA Times Business of Law: Updates, Trends, & Visionaries Magazine. In 2025 and 2026, Mr. Newell was included on the Los Angeles Business Journal's list of Leaders of Influence: Minority Attorneys. In July 2025, the Daily Journal named Mr. Newell to its list of California's Top Labor and Employment Lawyers. Mr. Newell is an adjunct professor teaching employment law at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.
