There's a difference between a lawyer who advises a business and one who runs the legal function like an executive. I'm the second kind.My first decade was in the trenches of compliance and administrative law — legal aid, Army JAG, the Florida Attorney General's office. That's where I developed the kind of regulatory and operational depth that most corporate attorneys read about rather than practice. Around 2013, I made a deliberate move into business law and went back for an MBA, not to change what I knew, but to give it a broader operating context. What came out of that combination is something that doesn't fit neatly into one job title. I've spent the last decade building and running legal affairs functions inside organizations — contracts, compliance, vendor management, legal operations, employment law — usually as the only person doing all of it. I don't sit at the edge of the business and give opinions. I sit inside it and own outcomes. This is the value I bring to every organization I work with.
