About Douglas Connell
I am the founder and managing attorney of O’Connell West, PLLC, a veteran-owned law firm in Austin, Texas, dedicated to fierce advocacy and proven results in criminal defense, military law, personal injury, and related matters.With over 30 years of legal experience in Central Texas, I bring a unique perspective to every case. I began my career as a Misdemeanor Prosecutor with the Travis County Attorney’s Office, later advancing to felony prosecutions at the Travis County District Attorney's Office. Later, I served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Austin. Handling more than 100 jury trials as a prosecutor gave me deep insight into how the government builds and prosecutes cases — knowledge I now use to craft powerful, effective defenses for my clients.My commitment to service extends far beyond the courtroom. I am a retired U.S. Army Colonel and Green Beret (Special Forces). After the attacks on September 11, 2001, I returned to active duty and deployed to Iraq with the 10th Special Forces Group and to Afghanistan with U.S. Special Operations Command. I also served with Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) in Washington, D.C., New York, and other locations, including work on the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force in Manhattan focused on international terrorism cases. During my military career, I earned two master’s degrees — one in Homeland Security from the Naval Postgraduate School and another in National Security/Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. I commanded a theater-level Special Operations unit in the Texas Army National Guard and retired in 2017 after more than 30 years of combined active and reserve duty, including multiple combat deployments.This background shapes how I approach the law. I bring mission-focused strategy, calm under pressure, and an unwavering commitment to justice. I am passionate about standing up for those who protect our communities and our nation.
