About Douglas Bregman

Mr. Bregman has practiced law for over 40 years, focusing on real estate and business transactions, mediation and arbitration, civil litigation, and matters involving receiverships, trusts, and estates. In real estate, he represents a diverse range of clients including developers, landlords, tenants, contractors, lenders, and investors through all phases of transactions: acquisition, development, leasing, financing, due diligence, litigation, and management. His experience covers various commercial property types, such as office buildings, retail centers, industrial and multifamily properties, storage facilities, hotels, solar energy projects, and raw land. He drafts and negotiates a broad range of legal documents including purchase agreements, leases, joint venture agreements, and loan documents. In recognition of his expertise, he was elected a Fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL) in 2004. His clients include public companies, REITs, government agencies, financial institutions, and private developers. As a mediator, Mr. Bregman has resolved hundreds of business and real estate disputes with a success rate above 90%. He also serves as an arbitrator and court-appointed receiver, and has taught mediation both in the U.S. and internationally. He is a member of the Maryland Chapter of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals. He is an experienced litigator in commercial, real estate, landlord-tenant, construction, and malpractice cases, and has handled numerous appeals. He is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. Mr. Bregman also serves as an expert witness in real estate, contract, malpractice, and trust-related disputes in D.C., and Maryland In the area of trusts and estates, he has served as both counsel and fiduciary, managing and distributing assets, handling tax filings, resolving disputes, and drafting estate planning documents such as wills and trusts. A dedicated legal educator, he has taught “Drafting and Negotiating Commercial Real Estate Documents” as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown Law since 1992, at Columbia Law School since 2011, and at Howard Law in 2023. He currently chairs the Board of Trustees of Maryland’s Client Protection Fund and has served on the Appellate Judicial Nominating Commission. He also teaches for the Institute for International Mediation and Conflict Resolution and lectures regularly for the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). Mr. Bregman is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
