Derek Fanciullo

Derek Fanciullo is driven to achieve one end – justice for his clients. A former Emmy-nominated television news reporter who exposed corruption and corporate malfeasance, Fanciullo put himself through law school after more than a dozen years as a journalist, and switched careers so he could more directly help people. He has successfully represented cities and non-profits against commercial polluters, victims of sexual assault and harassment against their attackers and employers, and clients who have been severely injured due to corporate indifference. Beyond litigation, Fanciullo has also crafted complex contracts for commercial clients: For instance, he authored an intricate purchase agreement for an industrial developer attempting to acquire real property in a Superfund Site, and developed an alternative compensation plan for a business seeking to re-acquire common stock from executives. Fanciullo began his legal career as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Jersey City. As a television news reporter, Fanciullo raised awareness on the severe health risks horse jockeys face to make weight, triggered changes to Kentucky election law via an investigative series on voter fraud, and held accountable a large insurance carrier attempting to evade payment for the medical treatment of a 10-year-old comatose boy. He and his work appeared on CNN, Fox News Channel and the NBC family of networks. Beyond his Emmy ® recognition, Fanciullo garnered roughly two dozen Associated Press and Society of Professional Journalists Awards for excellence. Fanciullo is a graduate of the New York University School of Law and Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
