Dan Hartzog

Dan M. Hartzog, Jr. is a founding partner of Hartzog Law Group. Throughout his career, Dan has represented numerous municipalities, counties, sheriffs’ departments, public and private universities, schools, and employers. He has successfully defended a variety of civil litigation cases, including wrongful arrests and searches, excessive force claims, employment discrimination and retaliation claims, alleged constitutional violations, Title IX claims, defamation claims, civil conspiracy claims, public records claims, and general liability claims. Dan has obtained favorable results for clients in both state and federal courts, including the NC Court of Appeals and the Fourth Circuit, as well as administrative agencies, including the EEOC, OAH, ESC, and DOL. Dan maintains an aggressive motions practice, and has been successful in obtaining dismissals for his clients at the earliest possible stage of litigation.In addition to his litigation practice, Dan also serves as town attorney for two municipalities. In his role as town attorney, Dan provides guidance on a variety of municipal issues, including zoning, land use, open meetings, and employment matters. He also offers pre-litigation guidance to clients to ensure that they are in the best possible position should litigation arise.Outside of work, Dan enjoys spending time with his family, including his twin children Annie and Cord, and their dog Stella. In what little spare time he has left, Dan plays bass in the Raleigh area rock band The Five Nines.
