Coleman Cowan

Coleman Cowan is a lawyer, law professor, and documentary news producer. His stories have appeared on 60 Minutes, 60 Minutes Sports, and CBSN On Assignment. He is a recipient of the Emmy, Gracie, Murrow, Peabody, and Polk awards for broadcast journalism, and has reported stories from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North and South America. His print stories have appeared in BusinessWeek Magazine, The New York Times, the Columbia Journalism Review, the Albany Times-Union, and the Raleigh News & Observer. He received his master’s degree with honors from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism in 2007. He was a member of the inaugural class of the Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism. Before attending Columbia, Coleman wrote for BusinessWeek magazine out of its Atlanta bureau, where his stories covered immigration, Delta Airlines, and the New Orleans school system, among others areas. Coleman started his career as a trial lawyer, litigating complex product liability cases. The firm he practiced with was based in Raleigh, North Carolina, but Coleman maintained a national caseload, winning many significant awards for his clients. In 2002, he was selected by his peers as one of North Carolina’s “Legal Elite” in litigation. He received his law degree, with honors, from Wake Forest University School of Law, and his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina. He has competed in dozens of triathlons, marathons. and ultramarathons, including Boston, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, the North Face Endurance Challenge 50-Mile race, Badwater Cape Fear, and multiple Ironman races. He lives with his family in North Carolina.
