Chris Donnelly

I went to law school intending to practice family law, and did so for thirty years. Along the way, I found in astonishing ways that it can be remarkably rewarding working with individuals during times of tough transition. I am continually impressed and inspired by people's strength in the face of adversity, their flexibility, consideration of others, and ability to move forward and get on with living. I have made wonderful friends among the San Francisco Bay Area (and beyond) professional communities, as well as among clients. With the full and consistent support of my colleagues at the remarkable law firm, LPS, LLP (San Francisco), I sought out pro bono opportunities -- the occasional direct representation, working with the local courts, and finding numerous ways to add value for the good of the profession and the good of the public. Outside of the office, conference room, and courtroom, I have immersed myself in the progress, advances, and stumbles within the north of Ireland since the second ceasefire in 1997 and the Good Friday Agreement that followed in 1998. I can vouch for the good work -- done and ongoing -- of the Integrated Education Fund in Belfast, and the the Pat Finucane Centre in Derry and Newry. Again, as with my practice in family law, I have been heartened and inspired by the courage and optimism of ordinary (some, not so ordinary) people. And, of course, I have made many wonderful friends along the way.
