Cari Cohorn

I am experienced in trial and appellate litigation, arbitration and mediation. My accomplishments include, e.g., successfully bringing and opposing motions for summary judgment, compelling production of purportedly privileged documents in a case of first impression, prevailing in several bench trials of employment matters, and assisting in an appeal overturning an eight-figure verdict (including a hefty award of punitive damages) against my client, an employer accused of negligently hiring and supervising its workers. My practice focuses on labor and employment, commercial litigation, and sports and entertainment law. In my L&E practice, I represent employees and management in both single-plaintiff and class actions in areas including harassment/discrimination, wage and hour, and wrongful termination. I have substantial experience investigating and responding to discrimination charges before administrative agencies. I recently obtained a $1.1 million judgment against a departing employee for misappropriation of trade secrets. In addition to litigating, I provide clients with counseling and training. As to commercial litigation, I have handled allegations of breaches of fiduciary duty, consumer class actions over bank fees, and unlawful "balance billing" by hospitals for emergency medical services. I tried to a jury a bet-the-company dispute over a multi-million dollar book of business. My sports and entertainment practice focuses mainly on the music industry and on professional and amateur sports. I handle domestic and international disputes over licensing agreements and over alleged copyright/trademark infringement, in state and federal courts and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. My sports practice includes drafting coach and vendor contracts, advising teams on risk management & employment law, and litigating matters such as alleged liability for sports injuries and disputes over the financing of equipment for athletic facilities.
