Byron Warnken

I am the founder of a five-lawyer law firm, Warnken, LLC. We have a concentration in appellate litigation. We also practice in the areas of sophisticated criminal litigation, law enforcement, personal injury, and workers’ compensation. I have also been a full-time law professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law for nearly 40 years, teaching primarily Criminal Law and Constitutional Criminal Procedure. As the former Director of UofB’s Judicial Internship Program, I placed more than 3,000 students with judges. In 2013, my 1,200-page treatise on Maryland Criminal Law & Procedure will be published. As an appellate litigator, I have been involved in approximately 250 appeals. I was honored to have argued against Attorney General Janet Reno in her only Supreme Court appearance. I have been privileged to testify before Congress. I have served as an expert in legislative and judicial arenas on more than 50 occasions. I have been legal correspondent for four of Baltimore’s local television stations, and I have done more than 1,500 media appearances and interviews. I have been fortunate enough to present more than 500 lectures in 18 states. I continue to wake up every day eager to both mentor the future lawyers of Maryland and serve my clients. I have had a remarkable career because of three things: hard work, dedication, and luck. I was fortunate enough to have been at the right place at the right time, a lot.
