Brigette Renaud

As an attorney focusing on retirement plans and health benefits, I apply legal experience and business knowledge to develop pragmatic solutions for my clients. Most of my career has focused on tax-qualified retirement plans, including 401(k) plans, and non-qualified retirement plans. Over the past five years, my practice has expanded to health care plans. I have been fortunate to acquire a rare combination of experience in employee benefits through several roles. In addition to counseling a variety of clients while at major New York City law firms, I was a benefits consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. I also led a legal department and served as in-house General Counsel and Secretary to a large tax-exempt pension fund. This combination of law firm experience, in-house experience and consulting translates into deep technical knowledge with a practical perspective. In addition, years of experience with ERISA law has given me a solid, hands-on grounding in DOL and IRS regulations and practices. I am able to study any pension document and efficiently determine the fiduciary and tax implications. In 2010, I founded Renaud PLLC as a boutique law practice. I am one of a very few to offer a streamlined alternative in the ERISA arena. I personally handle an entire client engagement and thereby come to understand the client’s plans and business processes, almost like an in-house benefits attorney. I appreciate how limited my clients’ time has become, so frame their issues at a business level, provide an overview of the legal and regulatory landscape and the client’s choices, and clearly lay out pros and cons. I take a project management approach to what often is a complex web of requirements and do not hesitate to be direct. I deliver legal advice in a “client-friendly” manner and develop customized solutions that can be implemented immediately by business leaders and human resource directors.
