About Anthony Candela
Board Certified Criminal Trial since 2008 Originally from Cheshire, Connecticut, I attended King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Shortly after college, I went to law school. After graduating from Duquesne Law School (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) in May of 2000, I was admitted to the Florida Bar later on that year in September. Immediately, I began my career as an assistant public defender in Tampa, Florida. At the public defender’s office, I was assigned to the major crimes division and handled primarily homicides, DUI manslaughters, and sex offenses. For over the past 10 years, I have represented thousands of clients and has been involved in hundreds of trials. As the lead trial counsel, I have tried more than 70 serious felony cases (including, homicide, manslaughter, capital sexual battery, lewd or lascivious, and DUI manslaughter). I have also successfully negotiated hundreds of cases ranging from capital offenses to simple misdemeanors and traffic offenses. Additionally, I am admitted to practice in the Middle District of Florida (United States Federal Court). I have written and argued criminal appeals and extraordinary writs at both the Second District Court of Appeal and the Florida Supreme Court. For the past two years, I have represented Liberty Mutual, specifically in the area of the Special Investigations Unit ("SIU"). SIU primarily deals with insurance fraud. The SIU team investigates and defends against all types of insurance fraud (including, but not limited to: Florida' s Personal Injury Protection ("PIP")/ "no fault," which included issues like false claims, claims of unscrupulous medical providers, and "staged car accidents.")
