Andrew Kossover

Andrew Kossover is a partner in Kossover Law Office and the former Chief Public Defender of Ulster County, NY. Mr. Kossover attended SUNY Buffalo and graduated from Vermont Law School in 1977. He immediately began the practice of law under the auspices of the Criminal Defense Division of the Legal Aid Society of New York. Mr. Kossover is also the former law clerk for then Ulster County Family Court Judge Karen K. Peters (recently retired Presiding Judge of the Appellate Division, 3rd Dept). In 1984, Mr. Kossover relocated from New York City to the Hudson River Valley. He was appointed by former Governor Mario Cuomo as a member of the Board of Visitors of the Hudson River Psychiatric Center. Mr. Kossover is also a member of the adjunct faculty at the State University of New York at New Paltz where he teaches such courses as Criminal Law, and Introduction to Law. He has also lectured at the United States Military Academy at West Point and Bard College. Mr. Kossover was appointed by former New York State Chief Justice Jonathan Lippman to the Advisory Group of the New York State Justice Task Force on Wrongful Convictions. Mr. Kossover served as a member of the Committee on Character and Fitness for the Third Judicial District. Mr. Kossover is a Past-President of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He previously served on the Board of Directors of the New York State Defenders Association. Mr. Kossover is former President of the Ulster County Bar Association. Mr. Kossover is the Past-Chair of the New York State Bar Association's standing Committee on Mandated Representation and a member of the Executive Committee of the Criminal Justice Section. He continues to serve as Legislative Chair of the Committee on Mandated Representation and the Criminal Justice Section. He is the Co-Chair of the State Bar's Task Force on the Modernization of Criminal Practice. He regularly receives litigation cases on a referral basis from other attorneys. Mr. Kossover is admitted to practice in all New York State Courts and the Federal Courts of the Northern, Southern and Eastern Districts.
