About Amber Mckinney
I’ve spent the past 20 years in legal journalism, working at the intersection of law, policy, and business. At Law360, I oversee the Employment Authority and Tax Authority verticals and manage a team of roughly 40 reporters, editors, and contributors. My focus is on producing clear, high-impact coverage that helps readers make sense of complex legal developments. A big part of my career has been building things from the ground up. I spearheaded the launch of Immigration Law360, creating a dedicated publication around a fast-moving and high-stakes area of law. I also built Law360 Employment Authority from scratch and established it as a leading source for labor and employment law coverage. Alongside that, I’ve spent years expanding into multimedia. I co-created and co-hosted the Pro Say podcast and have executive produced several others, including The Term (focused on the U.S. Supreme Court), Law360 Explores (a deep dive into major legal topics), and Approach the Bench (an interview series offering an inside look at judges and their judicial philosophies). That work has been about finding new ways to tell legal stories and reach audiences beyond traditional written reporting. Earlier in my career at Bloomberg BNA, I worked as a reporter, launched a biweekly immigration publication, and later served as assistant managing editor for the labor and employment team, overseeing a staff of 25 reporters and editors. That experience shaped my approach to editorial leadership: clear standards, strong collaboration, and a focus on producing work that is both authoritative and accessible. I’m especially interested in how legal journalism can keep evolving—across formats, platforms, and audiences—to better explain the systems that shape people’s lives and work. Outside of all of this, I’m working on my first novel.
