Alexandra Harwin

I come from a family of health care professionals, and I am passionate about the work of health systems. I am privileged to serve as in-house counsel at University Hospital, an academic medical center, Level I trauma center, and critical safety net hospital in Newark, New Jersey. Each day, I address the wide-ranging, fast-moving, and complex legal issues that health systems confront. In collaboration with senior executives and departmental leaders, I draft and negotiate contracts, modernize policies and procedures, represent the Hospital before federal and state agencies, supervise outside counsel to drive prompt and cost-effective resolutions, and provide in-house trainings. My approach is pragmatic, strategic, and creative, focused on advancing the hospital's mission to deliver high-quality care to the communities we serve while thoughtfully managing legal risk.
