About Afiya Hinkson
Attorney Afiya F. Hinkson was in born Bronx, New York, but has called Georgia home since her very early years. Attorney Hinkson graduated cum laude from the University of West Georgia, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communications, with a concentration in public relations, along with a minor in political science. Attorney Hinkson received her law degree from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law in Macon, Georgia. Attorney Hinkson began her legal career in May of 2006, as a law student intern, and then as an associate in 2009. Attorney Hinkson is tremendously knowledgeable with over ten (10) years of legal experience in family law, child welfare law and contract law, which includes, but not limited to, divorce, child custody, child support, modifications, contempt actions, Guardian Ad Litem investigations/recommendations, juvenile court dependency cases as Parent’s Attorney and Department of Family and Children Services Attorney, contract negotiations, contract disputes, contract formations, and civil litigation. Attorney Hinkson is also a Certified Child Welfare Law Specialist by the National Association of Counsel for Children. Attorney Hinkson also became a registered mediator in 2018 and is looking to make huge strides within courts and law firms throughout the State of Georgia by assisting with resolving legal disputes without the expense of full litigation. Attorney Hinkson became the first African-American woman Special Assistant Attorney General ("SAAG") in Forsyth County, Georgia in May 2019 for the Department of Family and Children Services ("DFACS"). Attorney Hinkson strives to be a powerful presence in the lives of people by speaking at events and providing imperative information pertaining to her legal career. Her goal is to make an irrefutable impact on anyone she encounters, and to make clients at ease and at peace during difficult and life changing times.
