About Alan Rubenstein
A family/divorce lawyer in Fairfield County for more than 30 years, I represent clients in divorce and serve as a divorce mediator and collaborative divorce attorney. With approximately 1,200 divorces, which includes more than 400 divorce mediations, 150 collaborative/cooperative divorces, and many hearings, trials, and arbitrations, I have encountered and counseled on nearly every family law situation that one can imagine. I come to the profession with a unique background. In addition to having a law degree, I have a Master of Science in counseling psychology with a specialty in marriage and family therapy. Accordingly, I approach divorce from a perspective that differentiates me from other divorce lawyers: I recognize that divorce consists of “problems to be solved and not battles or a war to be fought.” I possess a high degree of psychological awareness and insight, which actively and constructively informs the attorney-client relationship and divorce process. I strive to resolve divorces expeditiously, thoroughly, and efficiently. My breadth of professional experience enables me to quickly recognize obstacles and determine a reasonable range of outcomes for every issue and client concern. Once I obtain the necessary information to fully understand all of the divorce-related issues for the unique needs of the client, I work diligently to engage in efficient and effective settlement dialogue to affect an equitable and forward-looking resolution of all matters. While most divorces reach settlement, if that is not possible, I have the necessary trial experience, skill set, and tenacity to successfully advocate for my client in the courtroom. You pulled me through a very dark time." I keep the divorce process moving forward to minimize my client’s legal fees and the stress and anxiety inherent in divorce. I break down the divorce process into manageable, individual issues in the context of a global resolution that protects the interests of my clients and their families. My reputation for thoroughness, fairness, integrity, and positive outcomes is the foundation of my family law practice.
