About Michael Bassett
I am a trial lawyer focused on defending transportation and trucking companies in high-exposure litigation across Texas and nationwide, representing motor carriers, insurers, and businesses in catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases. As founder of The Bassett Firm, I built and led a trial-focused litigation practice for more than 24 years, developing a team known for handling the most challenging transportation matters. That same team is now part of Chartwell Law, where we continue to represent clients with the same focus and commitment, supported by a national platform. My practice includes all aspects of transportation and trucking defense, as well as catastrophic loss, premises liability, and general civil litigation. I also serve as a mediator, helping parties resolve disputes efficiently and thoughtfully. I have been actively involved in the Defense Research Institute (DRI) for many years and regularly engage with the broader transportation and defense bar on issues impacting the industry. I am also an author and frequent presenter, contributing to industry publications and speaking on transportation and litigation topics.
