About Michael Novak
I'm a San Antonio native and a former partner at Valdez & Trevino, also located in San Antonio. After initially beginning my career as a transactional attorney, I shifted my focus to litigation defense. During my ten years with Valdez & Trevino I rose from an associate to an equity partner. I have defended a myriad of clients against a wide array of claims including, but not limited to, first-party insurance, commercial and residential property damage, personal injury, premises liability, construction defects, and dram shop matters. This varied docket has allowed me to develop a wide breadth of knowledge and legal skills. My background in performance (see below) has proven very useful in oral advocacy on the behalf of the clients that I have the privilege of representing. Prior to starting my career in law, I taught ninth grade English in Alice, Texas, as well as a variety of liberal arts courses as a Graduate Part Time Instructor for the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Texas Tech University while working on my MFA. A I have also worked in the construction and service industries in jobs that range from cellular tower construction to restaurant and theatre management. During law school, I clerked for the 207th Judicial District Court for the State of Texas, served as a Notes and Comments editor for the Indiana Journal of Law and Social Equality, worked in the Disability Law Clinic at Maurer School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana, and served as a Practice Group Advisor mentoring first year law students.
