About Alana Ackels
Alana Ackels is a Partner in the labor and employment section of Bell Nunnally & Martin LLP. Since 2015, she has been selected as a Texas Rising Star on the Super Lawyers list featured in Texas Monthly Magazine for her work in the labor and employment arena. She was also named one of the Best Lawyers Under 40 by D Magazine and one of the 40 Under 40 by the Dallas Business Journal. 
 Alana represents clients in all areas of employment law compliance, labor disputes, and litigation. She has successfully handled employment matters for a wide range of businesses, including national retailers like Dillard's, large restaurant chains, assisted living facilities, and automotive dealerships. Alana's experience in the labor and employment context includes: i. Defending claims under Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, and FLSA, as well as breach of contract, employment-related torts, and nonsubscriber negligence. ii. Advising employers on strategies to minimize risks of litigation, employment policies, non-competition agreements, navigating protective leave, and wage and hour compliance. iii. Drafting and/or revising employee handbooks and employment agreements. iv. Conducting workplace investigations regarding discrimination, harassment, and/or retaliation. v. Responding to charges filed with the EEOC or TWC. vi. Providing human resource departments and in-house counsel with employment training, including strategies for minimizing risk. vii. Representing employers in contesting wage and hour violations and defending corporations in charges brought by the National Labor Relations Board. 
 Alana also has experience litigating claims based on non-competes, misappropriation of trade secrets, tortious interference, unfair competition, and breach of contract. She also has experience litigating insurance coverage disputes in both Texas and California.
